The Real Reason Behind Trump’s Yen Intervention Aug. 6, 2026, 7:00 p.m. ET nytimes.com/…6/opinion/treasury-yen-trump-currenc… By Eswar Prasad Dr. Prasad is a professor at Cornell University and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. It’s rare for the United States to intervene in another country’s currency policy. It usually happens because there is a crisis. But in recent cases involving Argentina, Japan and the United Arab Emirates, none of those countries had reached the level of emergency usually required. In all three the Trump administration has directly supported or offered support for their currencies. Why would the administration do this? After all, it seems risky and expensive to buy another country’s currency or even offer to temporarily swap dollars for that currency, especially one whose value is falling. None of these actions were born of benevolence. The administration has U.S. economic interests in mind but is also keen to propagate its policies and reward its …More

"Every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth," Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, Archbishop of Marseille and president of the French Bishops' Conference, said in an interview on Avvenire.it on August 5. Talking about Marseille's religious diversity [where Arabic has long become the dominant language], Cardinal Aveline described the coexistence of Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, and Christians as a theological challenge: "We did not invent the plurality of religions, nor the fact that every religion legitimately considers itself to possess the truth." On the Church's catholicity, Aveline claims: "The Creed we recite every Sunday embodies the Church's vocation to catholicity. If I had been born in China, I would have been Confucian; in Japan, Shinto." He argued that the Church's catholicity means recognizing "the desire for God in the hearts of women and men of every religion." Citing the Second Vatican Council, he said the Holy Spirit offers everyone "the possibility of being …More
August 6 - Blessed Tadeusz Dulny Blessed Tadeusz Dulny, also known as Tadeo Dulny, Taddeo Dulny, and Thaddeus Dulny, was born on 8 August 1914 in Kszczonowice, Swietokrzyskie, Poland, as one of eight children of Jan and Antonina Dulny. He grew up in a deeply religious family that fostered his own piety and devotion. Tadeusz's strong calling to the priesthood led him to become a seminarian in the diocese of Wloclawek, Poland. Although he was not an exceptional student, he was admired for his devout nature and his commitment to his vocation. However, the outbreak of World War II and the Nazi invasion of Poland brought about a sudden and tragic turn of events. On 7 October 1939, Tadeusz, along with other seminarians and their teachers, was arrested by the Nazis. They were taken prisoners and confined in the Salesian College of Lad, which had been transformed into a temporary detention center. Despite the dire circumstances, the teachers continued their clandestine instruction of the …More
[Saint Catherine of Genoa ~ XV-XVI Century; born: Genoa, Republic of Genoa/ died: Genoa, Republic of Genoa; (aged 62-63); Mystic; Spiritual Writer] Chapter XV ~ HOW THE SOULS IN PURGATORY REBUKE THE MEN OF THIS WORLD. "WOULD that I could cry out" (said this blessed soul, when under Divine illumination she saw these things), "loud enough to strike with fear every man upon the earth, and say, Miserable beings, why suffer ye yourselves to be so blinded by this world as to make no provision for the dire strait ye will find your selves in at the hour of death ? Ye all shelter yourselves under the hope of God's mercy, which ye say is so great ; and ye consider not that this very goodness of God will rise up in judgment against you for having opposed the will of so good a Master: His mercy ought to constrain you to do all His Will, and not encourage you to do evil. Be assured that His justice cannot yield, but must in one way or other be fully satisfied. Let no one buoy himself up saying, ' I …More
"Let no one buoy himself up saying, ' I shall confess ; and then I shall receive a plenary indulgence, where by I shall be cleansed from all my sins and get through safely.' Know that a plenary indulgence requires confession and contrition ; and this latter is so difficult to obtain, that if ye knew how difficult, ye would tremble with fear, and rather make sure of not gaining than of gaining the indulgence."
Novus Ordo Goes to the Dogs: On 26 June, a video of a Eucharistic celebration at the Santo Domingo Savio parish in Villavicencio, Colombia, went viral after two dogs started howling along with Rev. Carlos Mario Peña Lopera as he sang a hymn. The dogs, Simón and Luna, are strays that the priest took in and who now regularly accompany him at Eucharists, often sitting near the altar. According to Rev. Peña Lopera, Luna had not previously joined in the howling alongside Simón. The priest continued the hymn without interruption.

Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the IX St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum – the Forum of United Cultures. Italian Publisher complaining to Putin about his country and how things are suppressed, how he no longer is invited by publishers as a political scientist. TRUMPS QUOTE: VOTE FOR ME AND YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO VOTE AGAIN! YES! WE WILL STARVE TO DEATH OR DIE BY HIS NUKES. Is everyone having fun yet? He is part of the globalist and elites. Every best friend he has or had were. Why wouldn't he be? And defending them and threatening us to drop our conspiracies about them? And still "some" are blind and still running after their savior and hero. Defending him and attacking Catholics for exposing him for the beast that he is. Insanity has taken over the world. People will see evil as good and good as evil. And here we are today. Imagine that!
(...) Paul hat den ehemaligen …More

However, it is also possible that the lack of a response is a matter of personnel connected with the basilica. There is growing speculation that Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of Saint Peter’s Basilica, is due to be replaced soon. Rumors in Rome indicate that Gambetti’s replacement might be Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, or Bishop Guido Marini, who are all thought to be friendlier to the TLM than Gambetti. It is possible that a forthcoming transition in archpriest could be delaying a response about the celebration of a TLM in the basilica Therefore, silence should not be understood as rejection — at least not yet. Several Vatican sources told The Pillar the decision to allow the Mass last year happened after Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke asked the pope in an Aug. 22 audience to allow the Mass to be celebrated there...
Bishop Athanasius Schneider recalled his childhood in the underground Church of the Soviet Union during a talk in Cobh, Ireland, on August 3, AdVaticanum.com reports. “There were times when we had gatherings like this, but we had to close the windows and the doors because we were checked by the secret police, and we had to hide priests.” He recounted the story of Bishop Alexander Chira (1897-1983), a clandestine Greek Catholic bishop whom Soviet authorities urged “not to deny Christ, but only to become Orthodox,” thereby breaking communion with Rome. “He refused,” Bishop Schneider said, and, as a consequence, he was imprisoned in “several concentration camps called gulags.” Afterward, Bishop Chira lived under house arrest in Karaganda, concealing his identity as a bishop to avoid being sent back. “He could not reveal his identity as a bishop,” Bishop Schneider said. “Otherwise, he would be sent back. So he could only say to the people, ‘I am Father Alexander.’” Catholic priests celebrated …More
