Cardinal McElroy hails Leo XIV’s shift from “unfortunate” Catechism teaching.
Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington, writing at NcROnline.org on September 23, said that “during the past six months, we have witnessed a remarkable transformation in Catholic teaching on war.”
McElroy praised the “tremendous progress” made during that period toward “eclipsing the role of the just war tradition in Catholic teaching.”
“The just war framework has been distorted to become a source of justification for those inclined to go to war, rather than a constraint on war,” McElroy claimed.
Then this: “One of the accelerants for this trend is the unfortunate statement in the Catechism of the Catholic Church that the evaluation of the just war criteria belongs to those who have responsibility for the common good.”
The cardinal's statement comes in the wake of Leo XIV’s encyclical 'Magnifica Humanitas'. In §192, Leo XIV writes that just-war theory “is now outdated.”

Spanish Conference Convenes Priests To Address Their Ministry In “A More Synodal Church”
The Spanish Episcopal Conference will bring the application of synodality to the concrete exercise of priestly ministry in a national gathering convened for next November 30 in Madrid. Under the title “Presbyters: Servants of Communion,” archpriests, episcopal vicars, and clergy delegates will reflect on the role of the priest within “a more synodal Church” and on the so-called “differentiated co-responsibility” among the various vocations.
The day is not intended to remain limited to those attending the meeting. As the official convocation of the Spanish Episcopal Conference explains, the work carried out in Madrid “will serve as a basis to encourage subsequent reflection with priests in the dioceses.”

Leo XIV claims that Christ founded a “religious movement” - in direct contradiction to Church teaching and the Gospel.
The recently published document The Path of Hope was signed by the heads of three Vatican dicasteries and approved by Leo XIV on 22 June. It states in §10:
“Early Christianity developed from the movement initiated by Jesus and his disciples, distinguishing itself from the various forms of Judaism over time.”
That’s the liberal Protestant view associated with figures such as Albert Schweitzer.
It clashes with propositions explicitly condemned by St Pius X in Lamentabili sane.
Condemned sentences are:
§59: Christ “inaugurated a religious movement adapted to, or to be adapted to, different times and places.”
§60: “Christian doctrine was originally Judaic. Through successive evolutions, it first became Pauline, then Joannine and finally Hellenic and universal.”

Francesco was born in the small Italian village of Pietrelcina on May 25, 1887.
His parents, Grazio Forgione and Maria Giuseppa Di Nunzio, were peasant farmers, but they recognized their son was close to God.
When he was only five years old, he solemnly consecrated himself to Jesus. It is said he often spoke with Our Lord, Our Lady and his guardian angel, who defended him against attacks by the devil.
He joined the Capuchin Franciscans at the age of fifteen, and took the name Pio with his religious vows. After seven years of study he was ordained to the priesthood in 1910.
During the same month he was ordained, Padre Pio was praying in the chapel when Our Lord and His Blessed Mother appeared and gave him the Stigmata. However, the wounds soon faded and then disappeared. “I do want to suffer, even to die of suffering,” Padre Pio told Our Lady, “but all in secret." Soon after, he experienced the first of his spiritual ecstasies.

After more than four centuries, the Dominicans have left the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Las Caldas de Besaya in Cantabria, Spain.
Last Sunday, the Dominicans formally entrusted the sanctuary to the Diocese of Santander.
The church will remain a place of worship. The property continues to belong to the Dominicans. But the resident Dominican community - once one of the Order’s important houses in Spain - has come to an end.
The scale of the change is captured by Fr. Francisco García Ortega OP, the last superior of the community.
He entered the Dominican Order at Las Caldas 55 years ago, aged 17. At the time, the sanctuary housed Dominican philosophical studies.
“We were more than 200 friars, and now we are only two,” García Ortega told DiocesisDeSantander.com. Those two are García Ortega and Fr. Fernando Serrano Pérez OP, who has served at Las Caldas for about 30 years.
