French Bishop: Pro-Euthanasia Lawmakers Cannot Receive Communion

“When a member of parliament identifies as Catholic while supporting legislation that authorizes the taking of life, he objectively places himself in opposition not only to the Church's constant teaching but also to a fundamental principle of human reason,” Bishop Marc Aillet of Bayonne told France-Catholique.fr on July 7.
Members of the French National Assembly are expected to vote on the euthanasia bill on July 15.
Bishop Aillet said euthanasia is “an intrinsically evil act, regardless of the circumstances” and that Catholics engaged in public life cannot ignore this teaching, “If they are aware of this inconsistency, they will no longer be able to receive Holy Communion.”
Responding to the presentation of euthanasia as an “act of humanity,” Bishop Aillet said that a truly fraternal society does not respond to suffering by eliminating the person who suffers.
He added that this message must be proclaimed despite “the dominant discourse, which seriously clouds consciences,” and “the …Siwaju sii

Anybody know why Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney. is still allowed to turn up at Mass and be given Communion even though he is a long, continuing, unrepentant advocate of both the country's rapidly expanding murder regimes (aka assisted suicide and abortion)? Do the bishops and archbishops and Vatican ambassador up there not follow the news?

Father Karl A Claver

Thank you, your Excellency, but it is almost too little too late. Most of the clergy were silent on so many issues like abortion, birth control, euthanasia and sodomy so now it will only be an intervention from God to stop this immoral filth.

Leo XIV's New Bishop of Eichstätt Continues Debate on Celibacy

The newly appointed Bishop Christian Würtz of Eichstätt, Germany, expects further debate over priestly celibacy, he told Br.de on July 12.
On Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV appointed him from auxiliary bishop of Freiburg to the diocesan bishop of Eichstätt. During Germany's Synodal Way in 2022, he voted in favour of "blessings" for homosexual concubines and the "ordination" of women-clergy.
When asked about his predecessor, Msgr. Gregor Maria Hanke, who voted against those Synodal Way documents, Bishop Würtz said: "I think it goes too far to conclude from that that there are fundamental differences between him and me."
He described the different beliefs as "factional disputes."
Instead, he said, the focus should be on "what unites us": "That is also an important aspect of synodality - listening to one another, walking together, and learning from one another."
When it came to the topic of priestly celibacy, Bishop Würtz said: "This will certainly be a question that continues to occupy us in the …Siwaju sii

Ornate Catholic church was on the brink of closing... until priest came up with extraordinary old-fashioned idea that made attendance boom

An ornate Catholic church was on the brink of closure but now sees hundreds of faithful flock to its pews for Mass each week thanks to a priest's extraordinary idea. St Francis de Sales Oratory was founded in 1867 by a group of German immigrants who settled in St Louis, Missouri. The gorgeous church became a landmark in the midwestern city and for decades served parishioners of more than a dozen nationalities. But as families started moving out to the suburbs, the church, dubbed the Cathedral of south St Louis, saw a massive drop in parishioners, the church website states. St Francis de Sales was closed by the Archdiocese of St Louis in June 2005, and the church was forced to merge with another local parish. The church was scheduled to be torn down and sold, but was saved that July when Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke made the church an Oratory where Mass is strictly administered in Latin. St Francis de Sales is now one of about 450 churches across the country that regularly celebrate the …

U.S. and Canadian Jesuits Consolidate Novitiates

A decline in religious vocations has prompted the Jesuits in the United States and Canada to restructure the way they train future members of the pro-homosexual order.
The Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States has announced that it will reduce the number of its novitiates from five to two by 2028. This decision was communicated in a letter dated 9 July and signed by the superiors of the conference's five provinces.
Under the new arrangement, one novitiate will be located in Detroit, Michigan, serving the USA Midwest, USA East and Canada provinces, while the second will remain in Culver City, California, serving the USA West and USA Central and Southern provinces. Each facility is expected to accommodate up to 30 novices.
"Running five novitiates takes an awful lot of high-quality Jesuit personnel," Fr. Joseph Daoust, SJ, superior of the Detroit Jesuit community, told DetroitCatholic.com on July 10. "Each novitiate requires three to four experienced Jesuits dedicated to …Siwaju sii

The Certainty of the Chastisement Announced by Our Lady at Fatima

Lecture on April 3, 1970 (*) - Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
Something that history records and which the theology of history indicates as certain, is that the great disasters that fall upon peoples are punishments.
This is a certain principle of the theology of history. When a nation suffers a major catastrophe, it is a punishment. This does not apply to men or to particular individuals but for nations, social groups etc.
Now then, history tells us that major catastrophes take a long time hanging upon those punished. That is the general rule of major disasters. Cataclysms, all the way from the Flood through the fall of Jerusalem, those of the Western and Eastern Empires, Protestantism, the French Revolution, the Russian Communist Revolution etc. always are long suspended over a people without anyone understanding why they do not just break out, but they finally do.
There is more. In general, the longer the suspense lasts, the more terrifying the punishment is. So from this delay it does …Siwaju sii

FSSPX Files Appeal against the July 2 Decree

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X is formally challenging the Vatican decree issued on 2 July by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith that excommunicated its six bishops. On 11 July, it filed the required preliminary appeal under canon law. According to the Society, this filing temporarily suspends the enforcement of the decree while the appeal process is underway.
Communiqué of 13 July
The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X announces that, in response to the decree issued on 2 July 2026 by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, it submitted on 11 July a preliminary recourse to the same Dicastery, in accordance with canons 1734 and following of the Code of Canon Law.
This request, which constitutes the mandatory preliminary step before the possible introduction of a hierarchical recourse, has the effect of suspending the execution of the decree, in accordance with canon 1353 of the Code of Canon Law.
By this recourse, the Society intends to exercise the right which …Siwaju sii

The outcome of the purported excommunication of the six bishops today will be far different from the outcome of the 1988 excommunications.
In 1988, there was no visible reason for Catholics to doubt Pope John Paul II’s sincerity as a faithful Catholic. In the minds of most of the laity at the time, he at least appeared to be faithfully following the authentic teachings of the Church, at the same time. The SSPX was completely unknown to the world and was easily labeled as a breakaway religion. Yet, they survived and grew unimaginably.
That is not the case today, as many Novus Ordo Catholics, whether they follow them or not, recognize that the SSPX strictly adheres to the authentic teachings of the Catholic Church, and that it is the leaders in Rome who are following the teachings of Vatican II.
I would be greatly surprised not to learn that Rome is looking (praying?) for a lifeline at this time.

Northern Ireland: Carrying a Bible Can Be a Criminal Offence

On July 2, the Northern Ireland Policing Board published guidance on how Safe Access Zone legislation applies to hospital ministry.
The zones extend up to 100 metres (extendable to 250 metres) around premises that kill unborn children. Three groups are protected: mothers attending for abortion, anyone accompanying them, and staff.
The flagged activities are:
- prayer with patients during end-of-life care
- scripture reading requested by patients or families
- carrying Bibles or religious materials through public areas of hospitals
- consensual pastoral ministry within wards or hospital grounds
- visible religious practice within areas covered by Safe Access Zones
These religious actions could constitute an offence within a designated zone. It is enough if a "reasonable person" would consider them capable of influencing, or "causing distress" to, a mother seeking an abortion - even if there is no intent to do so.
The guidance states there is no exemption for clergy or religious activity …Siwaju sii

Did Bishop Sheen write a letter that is circulating around the internet?

Pope Leo XIV just appointed a German bishop who supported same-sex blessings, gender ideology, and LGBT initiatives. The same Vatican that celebrated that appointment has now imposed canonical sanctions on the Society of Saint Pius X, sanctions that require a more demanding process for lifting than the procedure for Catholics who have procured an abortion. The comparison is stark. The priorities are exposed.
The inconsistencies that have left traditional Catholics reeling are now being seen. John-Henry Westen also investigates a widely circulated letter attributed to Bishop Fulton Sheen criticizing the SSPX. While the letter may be genuine, the host argues it likely does not reflect Sheen's own thinking, citing historical inaccuracies, Sheen's declining health, and the possibility that staff drafted much of his correspondence.
The Vatican's treatment of the SSPX is not about discipline. It is about eliminating the Traditional Latin Mass and the communities that preserve it. The episcopal …Siwaju sii

Another piece of the puzzle is that +Sheen - like MANY priests at the time (even my saintly confessor) - saw Vatican II as "of the Holy Spirit" and submitted to it in obedience. They explained the fallout after the 2nd Vatican Council as a "high jacking" of the "reform" by radical progressives. Hindsight has revealed that the impetus of the council itself was flawed: that the Church needed to change to speak to "the modern world."

Percy Franklin

This is not meant to be uncharitable, but Fulton Sheen should not be a yardstick to measure orthodoxy. Whatever zeal he had initially, he was full bore a lover of VCII, Paul VI and the new mass. I am sure with that pedigree he was not a friend of Abp. Lefebvre or the Society

🌈 Bishops Attack FSSPX - "Invalid Sacraments", "Abuse of Eucharist"

Many bishops in the USA (and elsewhere) forbid Catholics from attending Mass in chapels belonging to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, yet they welcome schismatics and homosexuals. Three examples:
Arlington Bishop: FSSPX Sacraments Are "Invalid"
Bishop Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Virginia, instructed Catholics to “avoid participating in the activities of the FSSPX.”
In a letter dated 8 July, he wrote that "any celebrations of the sacraments of confession and matrimony by the FSSPX are invalid, and the administration of other sacraments is illicit".
In September 2025, Bishop Burbidge said that his meeting with the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew was “incredible,” and marked a “historic moment of Christian unity”.
Covington Bishop: FSSPX Mass Is "Abuse of Eucharist"
Bishop John Iffert of Covington, Kentucky, said in a recent statement that the sacraments from the FSSPX are “illicit”:

Run of Saint Andrew: Amalfi's Centuries-Old Tradition. The spectacular 'Run of Saint Andrew' in Amalfi, Italy, is part of a centuries-old celebration honoring Saint Andrew, the city's patron saint. According to local tradition, on 27 June 1544, as the fleet of the Ottoman corsair Khayr al-Din Barbarossa threatened Amalfi, the townspeople prayed for Saint Andrew's intercession. A violent storm scattered the enemy ships, and the city was spared. Each year on 27 June, bearers carry the silver reliquary bust of Saint Andrew at a run up the 62 steps of Amalfi Cathedral, commemorating this traditional account of the city's deliverance.

U.S. Ambassador Hosted Pope Leo XIV for July 4 Dinner

U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch has described an informal Independence Day dinner he hosted for Pope Leo XIV at his residence in Rome.
Speaking with Italian media, Burch said the pope arrived at 7:30 p.m. on July 4, prayed with the ambassador's family, and shared a meal featuring American charcuterie, watermelon salad, Chicago-style hot dogs, apple pie, and gelato. Burch said Leo XIV approved of the menu.
The pope arrived without aides or secretaries, accompanied only by two Vatican gendarmes.
Burch said he invited Leo XIV to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States by hosting the first U.S.-born pope. The invitation was sent about two months before the dinner, and confirmation came about a month later.
The ambassador also said Leo XIV still carries a Peruvian credit card, uses a cellphone, follows the Chicago White Sox, and sometimes wakes during the night to check soccer scores.
The dinner took place the same day Leo XIV visited Lampedusa. Burch said the pope rejected …Siwaju sii

US Archbishop Calls Attending FSSPX Masses "Sinful"

Catholics may not knowingly take part in the liturgical celebrations, apostolates, or other activities of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, Archbishop Shawn McKnight of Kansas City, Kansas, wrote in a July 2 statement following the episcopal consecrations.
McKnight noted that the SSPX's ministry "is not legitimate in the life of the Church" and that "the sacraments of Penance and Matrimony administered by them are now invalid."
Participation in the worship of the "schismatic" community fosters separation from the Church's communion, he added: "Such participation is not merely discouraged but is gravely contrary to the unity of the Church and, when undertaken with full knowledge and deliberate consent, is sinful."
