On 24 January, Pope Leo XIV appointed Rev. Cyril Buhayan Villareal as the new Bishop of Kalibo in the Philippines. CatholicCulture.org has reported critically on his theological positions regarding sexual morality on January 26. Born in 1974, Villareal was ordained a priest in 2001 and has served as a seminary instructor (2012–16), cathedral rector (2016–18), vicar general (2016–21), diocesan administrator (2021–23) and pastor (since 2023). In his 2011 theological master's thesis submitted at the University of Vienna, Austria, Monsignor Villareal showed sympathy towards revisionist arguments that question the Church's teaching on contraception. First, Villareal acknowledges that the Church's teaching "establishes a close bond between sexuality and procreation, linking the two in matrimony". He straightforwardly affirms God’s design of sexuality: "The Church judges the morality of the sexual act based on whether it is separable or inseparable from the unitive and procreative significance …ច្រើន

January 27th - Saint of the Day: Pope Saint Vitalian A saint for the days when the Church feels like it is getting pulled apart from every direction. Meet Pope Saint Vitalian (Pope, 657–672), the quiet powerhouse who held the line with peace when theology and politics were trying to hijack the faith. Here is the wild part. An emperor actually came to Rome, worshiped at St. Peter’s, and then left the city stripped of bronze treasures, even taking bronze from the Pantheon. Saint Vitalian kept his soul steady when the world got ugly. He fought for unity without selling the truth. He dealt with major rebellion from Ravenna. He helped keep Rome and Constantinople from exploding into total rupture. And he shaped the future of Christianity in England by sending Theodore of Tarsus to lead the Church after Whitby. This saint is proof that holiness is not always loud. Sometimes it is staying faithful, calm, and firm when everyone else is losing it. Want the full …ច្រើន
If the proponents of the Council were acting in good faith, nothing would prevent them from recognizing the error and remedying it, returning to what has proven effective and valid for millennia. But it is precisely their bad faith that impels them to deny the evidence and persist in passing off Vatican II as a “prophetic event” in the face of which no second thought, no reluctance is possible. If the faithful understood the deception of which they have been victims, they would also understand the dishonesty with which Cardinals and Bishops have acted and continue to act, and they would distance themselves from it. That is why no derogation from its application must be permitted, all the more so if these exceptions demonstrate how much better the “old liturgy” of the “old church” was.
Funny, I was watching his show on yt less and less. Not one of my favorites anymore. Then again, I am listening less and less with all of them. Sad to see anyone in D.C. attacking and no less sabotaging an American because he doesn't agree totally in and for Israel and bibi. More and more the truth is shown that anyone of us can be targeted if it's not good enough for this administration. Especially where it concerns Israel.
Two Saints from Syria cut to the Heart Saint Ephrem the Syrian, Saint Isaac the Syrian Wed Jan 28th "Then the Lord from His glorious heaven shall set up His peace. And the kingdom of the Romans shall rise in place of this latter people, and establish its dominion upon the earth, even to the ends and there will be no one who will resist it. After iniquity shall have multiplied, and all creatures have become defiled, then Divine Justice shall appear, and shall wholly destroy the people, and coming forth from perdition, the man of iniquity shall be revealed upon the earth, the Seducer of men, and disturber of the whole earth." Saint Ephrem the Syrian "Today Mary is heaven for us, because she bears God withing herself. The Most High God has abased Himself and made His dwelling in her, so that He might bring about our salvation." ច្រើន
[Saint Patrick - mid-fifth to early-sixth century; Roman Britain/Ireland; Missionary, Bishop; Apostle of Ireland] “30. For that reason, I give thanks to him who strengthened me in all things, so that I should not be hindered in my setting out and also in my work which I was taught by Christ my Lord; but more, from that state of affairs I felt, within me, no little courage, and vindicated my faith before God and man. 31. Hence, therefore, I say boldly that my conscience is clear now and hereafter. God is my witness that I have not lied in these words to you. 32. But rather, I am grieved for my very close friend, that because of him we deserved to hear such a prophecy. The one to whom I entrusted my soul! And I found out from a goodly number of brethren, before the case was made in my defense (in which I did not take part, nor was I in Britain, nor was it pleaded by me), that in my absence he would fight in my behalf. Besides, he told me himself: “See, the rank of bishop goes to you” -…ច្រើន

In the Belgian diocese of Namur, Abbé Maurice Léonard, a former dean, has died at the age of 85. His death was announced this week by the Diocese, where he was known as an "open and socially committed" priest, particularly due to his many years of service in Andenne. He retired in 2015. In addition to the diocese's obituary, which focused on his ecclesiastical career and pastoral legacy, his family published a second obituary. This notice mentions a "companion", a certain Sylvie Rase. It also lists four "children of the heart" and "his beloved grandchildren." #newsNuzvpyacoi
Completed in 2017–2018, the renovation transformed Sacred Heart Catholic Church (built in the mid-1980s). In 2016, Fr. Sullivan invited New Jerusalem Studios to reorganize the church around a more beautiful and reverent celebration of the Sacred Liturgy. The work included new tile, a redesigned stone altar and ambo, architectural elements, lighting, refinished pews, and a major mural program. The murals center on Christ the King and High Priest, flanked by the Archangels Gabriel and Michael, with Trinitarian imagery above and a gold-leaf tabernacle niche inspired by the Tilma of Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Home » Architecture , Painting » Before and After: Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona New Jerusalem Studios is a firm based in Phoenix, Arizona, which "specializes in theologically informed liturgical design for renovation and the creation of large scale sacred art murals." We have shared some of their work before and we are pleased to be able to share one of their (relatively) recent renovation projects, which nicely fits in with our continued and ever popular 'Before and After' series. The project was completed in 2017-2018, involving Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona, a church that was built in the mid 1980's. The Studio provides us with a bit of background: Fr. Sullivan approached New Jerusalem Studios in 2016 with the ambitious vision of organizing the parish around the beautiful and reverent celebration of the Sacred Liturgy and a plan for complete renovation of the interior of the church. The renovation included new tile in the sanctuary and nave,…
Oh, I see it now. The first four pictures had an empty space. The last picture in the article had a view of the tabernacle from a distance. It remains a Modernist church because the large resurrected Christ painting and no similarly dominant crucifix.

Ongoing reform is central to the liturgy because it has cultural elements that change over time and across places, pro-homosexual Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago - an ardent enemy of the Roman Rite and a good friend of Leo XIV - wrote on ChicagoCatholic.com (January 21). He repeated the historical misrepresentations which Cardinal Arthur Roche used at the January 7–8 consistory to polemise against the Mass of all ages. For Cupich, “with the passage of time and changes in the culture, there is always a need to reform the liturgy.” Particularly compelling he found Roche's fabulation that, according to Pope Pius V, there ought to be only one rite for celebrating the Mass. [In reality, Pius V allowed all rites older than 200 years.] For Cupich - who presides over the Eucharist with Asian dragons and allows all sorts of liturgical abuses in his archdiocese - “there can only be one rite as a means of preserving the unity of the church.” Key ideological concept: “The two main takeaways in …ច្រើន
