Left-wing Ultramontanism: Bishops Who Criticise Francis Are “Wrong”

Bishops and cardinals who publicly criticise Francis are "wrong", according to Archbishop Bruno Forte of Chieti-Vasto, Italy.

Speaking to the anti-Catholic ReligionDigital.org (21 February), which has been highly critical of the popes, except Francis, Forte justifies his opinion with reasons based on authoritarianism, not on a profound analysis of the Catholic faith and morals:

1. The Pope is the successor of Peter, to whom Christ entrusted the keys of the kingdom.

2. The Bishop of Rome has an overall vision of the Church and the world that no individual bishop has in the same way.

3. Breaking the unity of the Church hurts everyone, and the leading role of individuals does not express the power and beauty of communion, which comes from above and is an icon of the Trinity.

Before Francis came to power, Forte would never have proclaimed such ultramontane slogans. But Francis will no doubt be flattered by them, and will, God willing, soon promote Forte from Chieti to better shores.

Forte like most western governments is merely projecting. Blame the people. This pontificate has caused the division within the Church, but instead of taking full responsibility, they blame the faithful who dare to question the present papacy.
